BARS

Melbourne has SO MANY bars!  It is hard to know where to start.  As it is not expensive to get a licence to serve alcohol in Melbourne, we have more bars than anywhere.  Here are three to start you off:

  1. THE ORDER OF MELBOURNE:  THis is a very groovy roof terrace bar on Swanston St.  A number of little alcoves and open spaces.  Great music.  Hip crowd.  Level 2, 401 Swanston St.  Web Site

  2. MME Brussels at the "Italian" end of Bourke St is great rooftop fun.   57-59 Bourke St.  http://www.madamebrussels.com/

  3. CHERRY BAR:  In AC/DC Lane.  Cherry is an internationally famous late night street rock n’ roll bar. Quality local acts play live (always finishing by 11.30pm), then DJs keep the joint jumping till the wee hours.  Cherry has become the destination for local, interstate and international bands to descend upon and party after they’ve finished playing live themselves. You never know who you might meet at Cherry.  http://cherrybar.com.au/

NIGHTCLUBS

It’s really a matter of taste in music as to where you want to dance the night away.  There are loads of choices.  So rather than list a few options, here are three web links that will help you find the right nightclub for you.

  1. MELBOURNE NIGHTCLUBS

  2. ONLY MELBOURNE

LIVE MUSIC

You can hear great live music of any style in Melbourne.  The best place to look for music & venues is in one of our daily newspapers - THE AGE on Friday.  They have an extensive guide to all the live music in town.  You can get an on line version here.  But you really need to buy The Age newspaper on Friday to get the full picture.  Cherry Bar mentioned above is a great place for Rock in the CBD.   The Corner Hotel in Richmond always has great bands too.   If you want JAZZ, Birds Basement is where it happens:  http://birdsbasement.com/

THEATRE

Melbourne has a great Theatre Culture.  You can see what’s on and buy tickets.   http://tix.com.au/

CROWN CASINO

Melbourne has an awesome Casino and Entertainment complex - Crown Casino.  It’s not just about gambling.  There are cinemas, including Gold Class seating, bars, restaurants, mall style food halls, gaming tables, shows, live music, slot machines, sports betting and this place is HUGE!  Walking from one end to the other you wonder if it ever stops!  This is a touch of Las Vegas right on Southbank, Melbourne.  Feeling lucky?
