Melbourne has SO MANY bars!  It is hard to know where to start.  As it is not expensive to get a licence to serve alcohol in Melbourne, we have more bars than anywhere.  Here are five to start you off:


  1. 1. THE ORDER OF MELBOURNE:  THis is a very groovy roof terrace bar on Swanston St.  A number of little alcoves and open spaces.  Great music.  Hip crowd.  Level 2, 401 Swanston St.  Web Site link here.

  3. 3.BLVD:  Down along the Yarra river we have the Southbank precinct where there are stacks of bars & dining options.  Crown Casino is down here as well if you feel lucky!   BLVD has great views over the river and into town.  Inside and Outside areas.  Great ambience.              6 Queeensbridge Sq., Southbank.   4. 4.WESTIN HOTEL BAR:  Right in the heart of town, overlooking Swanston St. this is a quiet and luxurious bar if you want to relax in Style.  Of course it is 5 star hotel prices, but it’s fun to sit and watch the city go by.

NIGHTCLUBS

You can hear great live music of any style in Melbourne.  The best place to look for music & venues is in one of our daily newspapers - THE AGE on Friday.  They have an extensive guide to all the live music in town.  You can get an on line version here.  But you really need to buy The Age newspaper on Friday to get the full picture.  Two of my favorite venues are the Esplanade Hotel and the Prince Hotel, both in St.Kilda.  And The Corner Hotel in Richmond always has great bands too.   If you want JAZZ, Bennetts Lane is where it happens.    



LIVE MUSIC

Melbourne has an awesome Casino and Entertainment complex - Crown Casino.  It’s not just about gambling.  There are cinemas, including Gold Class seating, bars, restaurants, mall style food halls, gaming tables, shows, live music, slot machines, sports betting and this place is HUGE!  Walking from one end to the other you wonder if it ever stops!  This is a touch of Las Vegas right on Southbank, Melbourne.  Feeling lucky?
